Lady Raiders Earn Fourth Shutout in Culleoka Win
Defense has become a calling card of the Richland High School girls’ soccer team in recent weeks, and the Lady Raiders continued the trend with an 11-0 shutout at Culleoka Tuesday, the team’s fourth shutout victory of the season.
Richland (4-2, 3-1) led 5-0 at the half in a match that featured eight different scorers for the Lady Raiders. Sarahevelyn Corlew recorded a team-high four assists and added a goal. Audrey Briggs, Lindsey Owens and Lexi Jones each scored two goals apiece, while Clara Breitenreiter, Lexy Edwards, Karina Rodriguez and Bethany Gomillion each scored one goal. For Gomillion, a freshman, her score was the first of her Lady Raider career.
Another freshman, goalie Hope Calahan, recorded her fourth clean sheet of the season, recording only one save behind a strong defensive effort by Richland. Her lone save resulted in her first assist of the season when she booted the ball downfield to find Rodriguez for the score.
Richland hosts district foe Waverly Central Thursday at 6 p.m. on the campus of Richland School.
