Cheerleading RedHawks Ready for Trip to NAIA Invitational

The Martin Methodist Competitive Cheer and Dance squad is set to travel to Davenport, Iowa this weekend to compete in the 2016 NAIA Competitive Cheer

The RedHawks punched their ticket to the national tournament after they won the Midwest Regional held in Missouri last month.

The RedHawks fine-tuned their upcoming routine over the weekend as they were one of five schools that competed in the Southern States Athletic Conference Cheer and Dance Exhibition in Montgomery, Alabama.

In addition to the exhibition, the RedHawks were recognized at halftime of the SSAC Women’s Basketball Championship title game for their Midwest Regional victory.

Four members of the squad were also recognized individually as Chris Alexander, Jessie Horton, Yuta Kajisa and Keye Matthews were recently named to the 2016 NAIA Competitive Cheer and Dance All-America teams.

“The exhibition in Montgomery was a very fun and productive afternoon,” RedHawks head coach Micah Hartsfield said. “We had a chance to fine-tune some things before we head out to nationals this week. We also had the opportunity to cheer on our Women’s Basketball team in front of a RedHawk-friendly crowd. And finally, the squad and our four All-Americans had the chance to be recognized for their hard work and success this season. We are thrilled about the trip to Iowa later this week.”
