RedHawks Hire Veteran Tennis Coach

Martin Methodist Executive Director of Athletics Jeff Bain has officially announced the hire of Bill Riddle as Men and Women’s Tennis head coach.

Riddle replaces Tavis Rieger, who departed to pursue an NCAA Division-I opportunity at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, La.

Riddle brings 30 years of experience of coaching to the RedHawk programs. Prior to Martin Methodist, Riddle served as head coach at both Cumberland (Tenn.) and Fisk (Tenn.), as well as a stint as assistant coach at NCAA Division-I Belmont University.

“Bill brings a wealth of experience, network and management to our RedHawk Tennis program,” Bain said. “We are very fortunate to have someone of his skill set available to step in immediately and provide leadership to our teams. Coach Riddle is the perfect fit for the needs of men’s and women’s tennis teams as they are preparing for the demands of their upcoming spring season.”

In his previous collegiate coaching stops, Riddle coached six All-American players and numerous with national singles and doubles rankings. While coaching college tennis, he was a two-time recipient of the USPTA Southern Division College Coach of the Year award and a two-time ITA/USTA College Coaches Community Service award.

At Cumberland, Riddle was named TranSouth Conference Coach of the Year and Regional Coach of the Year.

In addition to his collegiate coaching prowess, Riddle also is a Certified Elite Tennis Professional within the USPTA and Professional Tennis Registry and has been recognized as a USTA High Performance Tennis Specialist.

“I could not be happier to be back coaching college tennis and to be part of the Martin Methodist College family,” Riddle said. “I am excited to build on the foundation of the previous coaches and develop a winning program both on and off the tennis courts with outstanding student-athletes.”

Riddle and his wife Stephanie are natives of Middle Tennessee and have two children, Blakely and Will.
