Raiders Hold Off Minor Hill Rally
Carter Edwards’ 23 points helped the Richland Middle School boys’ basketball team stave off a pair of Minor Hill rallies in a 40-31 road win Nov. 19.
The Raiders completed the sweep of the Wildcats with the victory, but this win did not come by the sizable margin of the first meeting as Minor Hill’s dominant inside game kept the game close into the final minutes. Richland led 20-14 at halftime, but a 3-pointer from Alex White and a Calum Lavacot inside score pulled Minor Hill within a single point early in the third.
The Raiders held Minor Hill scoreless for the rest of the quarter to hang onto the lead. Richland began to look to the kick out 3-point shot in the second half, the first of which by Jace Carter-Miller extended his team’s lead back to two possessions. In the final minutes, Edwards took advantage of a pair of blown assignments and hit a pair of free throws to take the nine-point victory. Richland hit six shots from beyond the arc in the victory, while going 4-of-7 from the free throw line.
Carter-Miller scored six points for Richland. Landon Hawkins and Luke Jones each added five, while Andrew Huff chipped in three points.
Lavacot’s inside game led to a team-high 11 points for the Wildcats. White hit a pair of second half shots from downtown to finish with eight. Dominick Howard scored seven. Jack Stafford scored three, and Gage Kirk chipped in two points.
