MMC Trainer Serves on SSAC Women’s Leadership Committee

Martin Methodist Assistant Athletic Trainer Christine Lewis was named campus liaison to the newly formed Southern States Athletic Conference Women’s Leadership Committee, the conference office announced Monday afternoon.

Lewis, who just completed her second season at Martin Methodist, is one of 12 campus liaisons chosen by the conference to the committee that seeks to enrich professional experiences within the SSAC and collegiate athletics for women.

The committee held their first meeting on the campus of Faulkner (Ala.) in late May, where Lewis was chosen as Martin Methodist’s representative.

Faulkner Volleyball head coach Tori Bartels serves as the committee’s chair.

“I am very excited to see what this initiative can lead to,” SSAC Commissioner Mike Hall said. “We have many great female leaders, both in the coaching ranks and administrative areas in our conference. This initiative will help connect them with some of the up-and-coming female professionals for mentorship and professional development opportunities.”

“We are thrilled to create the Women’s Leadership Committee and start a journey with our fellow SSAC women,” Lewis said. “We hope to continue developing ourselves through the camaraderie, leadership, and support from these women. This group is very important to us, to all women, and to the sports world. We aim to advocate for women and give them a bigger voice at their schools and our conference. I would like to thank these ladies for their efforts in creating this initiative and allowing me the opportunity to serve as a liaison for Martin Methodist. I am excited to see what we will achieve.”

As Assistant Athletic Trainer, Lewis is responsible for the day-to-day activities of the Martin Methodist Sports Medicine department. Lewis directly works with all 18 varsity intercollegiate sports as well as the junior varsity programs.

Lewis received her undergraduate degree from the University of South Carolina in 2014. In 2017, she graduated from Weber State University with her Masters Degree in Athletic Training. Lewis is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist.
