Local Athletes “Run the Rolling Hills” at Annual Heritage Festival
The hills of Campbellsville were alive with the sound of sneakers meeting well worn dirt paths as 71 participants ran for both fun and competition in the annual Run the Rolling Hills 5K and Kids Fun Run Oct. 7.
The event, which was part of the ninth annual Campbellsville Heritage Festival, featured a course that is unique from many local 5Ks as those in attendance ran a more scenic route through hills and forests rather than the more traditional paved paths.
Jeremy Kaiding of Shelbyville, Tenn., was the event’s overall winner with a time of 21:34, 23 seconds ahead of second place finisher John Nevels of Huntsville, Ala. Melissa Garcia of Fayetteville, Tenn., was the top female finisher, netting 10th place overall with a time of 27:06.
Jaelyn Hickerson of Culleoka, Tenn., was the lone runner to take on both the 5K and the one-mile Kids Fun Run, taking home the top spot with a time of 7:19 in the fun run, just two seconds ahead of her brother, Jax Hickerson. Jaelyn also finished with a very respectable time of 31:58 in the 5K to finish 24th overall.
Former Giles County Bobcat basketball player Kadijon Townsend was the top finisher from Pulaski with a time of 23:49 and a third place finish. Jackson Alsup, who attends Richland High School, also added a top-10 finish for the local community with a time of 26:40 and a seventh place finish.
The Campbellsville Area Association would like to thank everyone who participated in this year’s event and issue an official invitation to next year’s Run The Rolling Hills Cross Country 5K and Kids Fun Run which is scheduled to be held Oct. 6, 2018.
