T. David Johnson Sr.

Mr. T. David Johnson Sr., 93, of Pulaski died Sept. 7, 2018.


He was born May 13, 1925, in Giles county. Mr. Johnson graduated from the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, N.Y. and served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He graduated from Cumberland Law School. He and his brothers were pioneers in the automobile auction business, owning local automobile dealerships in Pulaski throughout their professional life. He was on the first Tennessee Automobile Commission and Pulaski Exchange Club. He was an investor in Sundrop Bottling Co. Inc. He was a devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church in Pulaski. He is preceded in death by wife Mary Wade Long Johnson; parents, Guy and Erna Johnson; brother Julian Johnson; and sister Eva Bennett.


Funeral services were Sept. 10 at First Presbyterian Church with Robert Montgomery officiating. Burial was in Maplewood Cemetery. Bennett-May-Giles County Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.


Survivors include son Thomas David Johnson Jr. and wife Beverly of Pulaski; daughters, Katherine Lee and husband John of California, Anne J. Ruark of Nashville; grandchildren, Thomas David Johnson III and wife Lisa, Laura Jessup, Lisa May and husband Mickey, Mary-Sumpter Lapinski and husband Matt, Jonathan Lee, Robert Ruark and wife Liz; and nine great-grandchildren.
