Mollie Ann Simmons Houston

Mrs. Mollie Ann (Mott) Simmons Houston, 74, of Pulaski died Dec. 29, 2019, at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville. 

 

Mrs. Houston was born July 17, 1945, in Giles County. She graduated salutatorian of the class of 1963 from Bridgeforth High School. She was an excellent singer, singing in the school choir, and was a cheerleader. She attended college at Tennessee A&I (TSU) where she received her Bachelor of Science in Business Education. In 1968, she began her career as a contract and procurement intern at Redstone Arsenal. With outstanding performance and hard work, she was promoted throughout her career to eventually become Branch Chief and Lead Contract Specialist for the Reagan Administration Star Wars (SDI) program in 1990 — the first black to hold this position. She had two great loves in her life: her family and her faith. She was a faithful, devoted Christian, wife and mother. Her focus on life was living and loving both the Lord and her family completely. She is preceded in death by parents, Flournoy and Annie Mae Simmons; and brother Flournoy (Bubba) Simmons. 

 

Funeral services were Jan. 3 at Second Street Church of Christ. Burial was in Maplewood Cemetery.

Survivors include husband Mark Houston; son Marcus Houston and wife Angela; granddaughters, Chandler Nicholson and husband Mariel, Ireland Houston; aunt Clara Harwell and husband Alex; brother John Albert Simmons; sisters, Schwanda Houston Laura Abstain and husband Marshall, Yolanda Angus; and a host of dearly loved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
