Mary Evelyn Ward Parker

Mrs. Mary Evelyn Ward Parker, 90, of Huntsville, Ala., died Aug. 31, 2019, at DiversiCare of Big Springs in that city.

 

Mrs. Parker was born June 7, 1929, in Huntsville, Ala. She attended Meridianville School and Huntsville High School, and continued her education with North Alabama College of Commerce. She retired from Montgomery Ward’s Department Store and the Defense Finance and Accounting Service at Redstone Arsenal. She was active in the Epworth Methodist Church. She was initiated into Helion Chapter 203 of the Order of the Eastern Star in 1953, and served for more than 60 years. She held numerous offices in that time including worthy matron, treasurer and several star point positions, as well as grand representative of Alabama in Kentucky. She loved her friends and family, and socializing with all. She is preceded in death by parents, William Laurel and Eliza Leona Adcock Ward; brothers, Harry Orval Ward, Grover Wheeler Ward; nephew Harry Daniel Ward; and former husband Douglas D. Gilley.

 

Funeral services were Sept. 4 at Laughlin Service Funeral Home, Huntsville.

 

Survivors include husband of 35 years Lee Doyle Parker of Huntsville, Ala.; step-daughter Sandra Parker of Huntsville, Ala.; sisters-in-law, Ruth Ward, Ann Ward; nieces, Lynn Ward Moore and husband Billy, Sue Ward Moynihan, Leona Ward Conner and husband Steve, Mary Lou Ward and husband Rafael; nephews, Garland Keith Ward and wife Cindy, Ken Byron Ward and wife Connie; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews; and beloved cousin Mary Ann Ward Arpasi and husband Dale.
