Flora Mae Holbert

Mrs. Flora Mae (Big Mama) Holbert, 96, died Jan. 5, 2019 at STRHS Pulaski.

Mrs. Holbert was born May 21, 1922, in Pulaski. She attended school at Mount Olive, in the Campbellsville Community. She accepted Christ as her personal savior at an early age, and was united with Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church for many years, serving as an usher and in any other capacity needed. She was united in Holy Matrimony Sept. 1, 1943, to Thomas Holbert, and to this union two daughters were born. After uniting with her beloved husband, they moved into the Friendship Community in Giles County. She united with Friendship A.M.E. Church where she was a dedicated member for more than 70 years, serving as an usher, stewardess and dedicated missionary. She served her community well, caring for the elderly, visiting the sick and shut-in within the community and sharing the word of God, and singing His praises. Although beset by illness in her later years, she attended church as often as she could. She enjoyed having her pastor, the Rev. William Howard Smith, and chaplain, Jeff Collet, to come and share the word of God with her and sing His praises. Her favorite song was “This Little Light of Mine.” She sung with a loud tone; she would sing until she felt the Holy Spirit. She was a cheerful, warm and loving lady. Visitors always brought joy to her heart; the doors of her home were always open. She loved her children, family and friends dearly, always offering comforting words and sharing the love of God and a testimony of faith, and they loved her. Most of all, she loved her Lord. She is preceded in death by husband Thomas Holbert; parents, Byrd and Elizabeth Martin Everly; brothers, Word Everly, Robert Everly, Allen Everly, W.R. Everly; and sisters, Ellen Bufford, Roberta Gunter and Hattie Mae Everly.
