Dr. Paul McLin Wakefield

Dr. Paul McLin Wakefield, 90, of Fayetteville died Dec. 2 at Lynchburg Nursing Center.

Dr. Wakefield was born Aug. 8, 1928, in Giles County. He was a graduate of Martin Methodist College, Middle Tennessee State University and earned his doctorate degree in Dentistry from the University of Tennessee Memphis. He was a member of the American Dental Association, Tennessee Dental Association, men’s Bible class at Fayetteville First UMC, charter member of the Joseph Greer Chapter of the TN-S.A.R., TN Society War of 1812, past-president of the Fayetteville Rotary Club, a Paul Harris fellow and past-president of the Lincoln County Chamber of Commerce. He owned and operated Dr. Paul M. Wakefield, D.D.S. dental practice in Fayetteville until retirement in 1999. He is preceded in death by parents, Gideon Cephus and Sadie Ileen McLin Wakefield.


Visitation will be from 10 a.m.-noon Saturday, Dec. 8 at Higgins Funeral Home, Fayetteville. Funeral services will begin at noon with the Rev. Whitney Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in Higgins Cedar Hills Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include wife of 60 years Nancy Ruth Clemmer Wakefield; sons, Colin Wakefield and wife Nan of Fayetteville, John Kevin Wakefield and partner Alice Reid of White House; daughter Cynthia Hinson and husband Andrew of Athens, Ala.; grandchildren, Mollie Wakefield and fiance Stevenson Giles, Katie Wakefield, Bonnie Wakefield, Trevor Hinson, Drew Hinson; brothers, Glen Wakefield and wife Carolyn of Guntersville, Ala., Carl Wakefield, Earl (Corky) Wakefield, both of Pulaski; and several nieces and nephews.
