Summer SOULstice Is Saturday!
by Emmy Slaughter Williams
The countdown is officially on for the Fourth Annual Summer SOULstice Festival this weekend. Saturday at 5 p.m., welcome summer with festivities for all ages.
Experience Pulaski’s growing art culture with live music, dance performances, vendor specialties, local merchant offerings and a Giles Arts Council Art Gallery exhibit premiering at STAAR Theatre.
The Utopia Band, Temple of Praise Mass Choir, chainsaw art, Milk Drop Contest, PACE Car Display and unique LED photo booth are just some of your entertainment options.
Attendees’ participation can also help raise funds as the festival is hosting alongside the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life.
Honor a cancer survivor by buying a luminaria or let the kids enjoy the new fun zone they have planned; all for a good cause.
Mayor Pat Ford is pumped about the event, saying the night is a unique one.
“How great is it that we’ve brought Relay For Life and SOULstice together?” Ford asked. “Where else would you get to honor and help people at something like Relay and have all these other options at the same time? It’s incredible; an absolute blast. It means a great deal to our local economy, too, and has become one of Pulaski’s signature events.”
Ford continued, “You concentrate that many people in a downtown area and the commerce magic happens. People visit shops, see the beauty of our Historic Square. In the age of Amazon and online shopping, where downtown scenes maybe aren’t as vibrant, we are blessed with a downtown that really pops — merchants, cool shops offering the unique. It’s really something special.”
Summer SOULstice Festival kicks off around the Courthouse with the Milk Drop contest at 5 p.m. If you’d like to enter, or have questions about the festival, call the Giles County Chamber at 363-3789.
