Arts, Music, Fun Return With Summer SOULstice

There’s more of the same and a lot of new in store for the Second Annual Summer SOULstice Music and Arts Festival on the Pulaski Square this year.

Saturday, June 17, is the date for this year’s festival, making it the perfect family event for Father’s Day weekend, including the addition this year of a Father/Daughter Dance on the Pulaski Square, Friday, June 16, as a prelude to Saturday’s main festival event. The event is scheduled for 6:30-9 p.m.

“The Father/Daughter Dance will be a fun night of dinner and dancing in the street,” Pulaski Main Street Director Tiffany Hagood said, noting that the event will be a night to remember for fathers and daughters of all ages. “Bring your daughters out for a night of fun just for them and make memories you will cherish forever.”

Hagood said there will be a lot of new events for families and children to enjoy at this year’s Summer SOULstice, but one thing that remains from last year’s inaugural event will be sharing the evening on the Pulaski Square with Giles County’s Relay For Life celebration.

“Relay For Life remains an important part of Summer SOULstice and is shifting back onto the Square this year,” Hagood said. “Relay For Life represents our healing arts and the celebration will be front and center this year along Second Street right on the Square.”
Relay For Life events are scheduled from 5 p.m. until midnight.

One of the more exciting additions to this year’s musical line up for Summer SOULstice is the announcement that First National Bank’s Sounds on Second will feature Dueling Pianos from The Big Bang Bar in Nashville. VIP packages are available for preferred seating at the First National Bank Community Park Gazebo for the Dueling Pianos show, which is scheduled for 6-9 p.m.

Terra Bella will be the featured musical group on the main stage at Second and Jefferson streets. The country band, which recently shot a video in downtown Pulaski, is scheduled to take the stage after the 9 p.m. Relay For Life lighting ceremony.

A change this year will be the Dance Party at Silk Gourmet Cafe. Gone is last year’s performance stage and in its place will be music to keep you dancing the night away.

“We are so excited about the music from Second and College at First National Bank all the way to dancing on North First Street,” Hagood said. “No matter where you are, you will be treated to great music and great fun.”

More attractions for the kids are also among the new items for this year’s Summer SOULstice, but some of last year’s favorites are back too.

Some of the returning attractions include:

• Local talent from Pulaski Performing Arts Center and STAAR Theater will be back on the Square and at the performance stage at First and Washington streets.

• Milk Drop returns with a later start time.

• Roark Phillips brings his chainsaw art back to the Square.

A variety of vendors and much more are on tap for this year’s Summer SOULstice.

More information will be available in upcoming editions of the PULASKI CITIZEN as Summer SOULstice approaches.
