Raiders Improve to 6-0 in District With Cornersville Shutout
Stephen Pelfrey made his second-straight start in 11-A without allowing a run as the Richland baseball team won its sixth-straight to start the season in district play in a 2-0 win over Cornersville Monday.
Pelfrey shut out Culleoka last week and pitched six shutout innings this time around before Caleb Briggs picked up the save with a scoreless seventh. Pelfrey struck out six batters, while surrendering only three hits and three walks.
Richland (12-3-1, 6-0) scored its only two runs of the ball game in the bottom of the first when Ty Rose and Caleb Briggs reached on back-to-back singles and were driven home by Whitt Gibson and Pelfrey. Richland registered four of its eight base hits on the day in the opening frame.
Gibson led the Raiders at the plate, going 2-for-3 with an RBI.
RHS will travel to Cornersville today (Tuesday) before closing out the week with a game at Collinwood Thursday.
